Nkechinyere (NK) Josephs is a compassionate and client-centered Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate, with a diverse background in mental health counselling, general medicine, and community support.
NK brings a well-rounded perspective to therapy, informed by over seven years of experience across hospital, clinic, and private practice settings, both in Canada and internationally.
Having completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, Nkechinyere also holds a Graduate Certificate in Concurrent Disorders (Mental Health and Addictions) from Mohawk College, as well as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
NK’s integrated academic and clinical training allows her to approach mental health care with both psychological insight and medical sensitivity. She uses an integrative and trauma-informed therapeutic approach, drawing from a wide range of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Culturally Responsive and Strengths-Based Practice.
Her therapeutic focus includes anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, stress management, addiction, and relationship issues. She is passionate about helping individuals cultivate emotional regulation, develop self-awareness, and navigate personal or cultural identity concerns.
NK is based in HRM and provides virtual therapy services to individuals +13. She is skilled in conducting clinical assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and supporting clients through both acute crises and long-term personal growth.
Earlier in her career, Nkechinyere worked as a Mental Health Clinician with the Nova Scotia Health Authority and held various roles in medical support, technical advising, and community health. Her time
as a General Practitioner in Nigeria further refined her ability to manage diverse client concerns with empathy, clinical precision, and cultural awareness. She is a registered member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT), and maintains active professional liability insurance.
Nkechinyere offers flexible scheduling to meet the needs of her clients, and her practice is rooted in trust, respect, and collaboration. Whether working with individuals, families, or youth, she is dedicated to helping clients feel empowered in their healing journey and supported in building a more satisfying and balanced life.
